INTERVIEW WITH JOEY CHAN AFTER HER WIN OVER COLINE AUMARD
Joey Chan bt Coline Aumard 3-0 ( 11-4, 11-9, 11-6 )
Well, Joey, that was the first game against France this afternoon. It’s going to be a tough match between you and France as you’re seeded 4 and 5 respectively. How did you feel about the match today ?
Actually, I was kind of nervous with all those French children making so much noise and shouting out loud so I felt a little bit stressed by all that. But after the first ball, I found my way, I tried to remain focused and keep my eye on the ball.
You mentioned the spectators just before, what did you think about the French crowd ?
Quite good – so loud and the players love it. I know they are all for the French side and so that made me really concentrate even more.
Is it more pressure playing in the Worlds rather than in individual competitions ?
I think the Worlds is a very special event on the squash circuit because you can meet a lot of other teams. In the Asian team championships, there are only 7 teams -here 17. This event is great because there are all levels and our only aim in to play squash.
Well, talking about the event, what do you think of Paris ? Were you able to visit before the tournament started ?
It’s the first time we’ve been to Paris. We went to the Eiffel Tower to take a team photo. It’s really nice. It was one of my childhood dreams to visit it. Hopefully, we may have time to travel around Paris and admire the sights. I took lessons before we came to be able to speak a little. I don’t understand much but I love the atmosphere and being surrounded by the French language. It’s fantastic.
